About Canadian Income Tax Calculator

Canadian Income Tax Calculator combines federal and provincial income tax into a single result for any province or territory. Canada taxes twice on the same income — once federally and once provincially — and because each province sets its own brackets, the combined marginal rate on the same salary varies by more than ten percentage points across the country. The tool applies federal brackets and each province’s own table, then credits the federal and provincial Basic Personal Amounts at the lowest bracket rate, which is how non-refundable credits actually work rather than treating them as deductions. Two province-specific rules that materially change results are modelled: the Ontario surtax, which adds 20% and then a further 36% on higher provincial tax amounts, and the Quebec federal abatement, which reduces basic federal tax by 16.5% for Quebec residents. An RRSP deduction field reduces taxable income directly.

Key Features

  • Federal Plus All 13 Provinces

Separate bracket tables for every province and territory, applied alongside the federal brackets to give a true combined figure.

  • BPA as a Credit, Not a Deduction

Basic Personal Amounts are credited at the lowest bracket rate, which is how CRA applies them. Treating them as deductions overstates the benefit for higher earners.

  • Ontario Surtax Modelled

Applies the 20% and additional 36% surtax on provincial tax above the statutory thresholds. Omitting it understates Ontario tax significantly.

  • Quebec Federal Abatement

Reduces basic federal tax by 16.5% for Quebec residents, without which Quebec results are materially overstated.

  • RRSP Deduction Field

Reduces taxable income directly, letting you test how much tax an RRSP contribution actually saves at your income level.

  • Dual Bracket Tables

Side-by-side federal and provincial breakdowns showing income and tax in every band.

How to Use

Enter your planned contribution to see how much tax it saves at your income level.

  4. 4

    Read the summary

Check total tax, after-tax income and the combined marginal rate.

  5. 5

    Review both bracket tables

See federal and provincial tax band by band, plus any surtax or abatement line.
